Beck Rewired

Fusion
|
New
|
It was the mid-70s when Jeff Beck redefined instrumental rock with the back-to-back groundbreaking albums Blow By Blow and Wired. Stealing ideas from fusion, funk, rock and jazz alike, the albums mixed hooks and overdrive with extensive solo sections, unconventional modulations and frequent time changes to create a sonic landscape that inspired a generation of guitarists. David Carr was one such guitarist. Having worked with iconic Australian acts such as Russell Morris, Guy Sebastian, Deborah Conway and Taxiride, David was inspired to re-create Beck’s songs and sounds in a new band. Gathering bassist Robyn Payne (Tommy Emmanuel, Eurogliders, Tina Arena, Hey Hey It’s Saturday house band), drummer Rob Maizels (Crucial, Zoot Axe, Hail Hemi, Paul Jamieson Trio) and keyboardist Jared Haschek (Christine Anu, Eso, Compliments of Gus), the band have breathed new life into these classic tunes whilst staying true to the original recordings, hoping to introduce this incredible music to a brand new audience, while delighting Jeff Beck fans alike. Playing all songs from the Wired album along with selected cuts from Blow By Blow, Beck Re-Wired is everything you love about vintage Jeff Beck.

Strong vocals with vibrant harmonies are a feature in this band.
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Gary Russell and Piano vocalist Kathy Westaway combine with a great rhythm section provided by Aussie session musician Len McGrath on kit and percussion and sought after local bassist Peter Barton on electric and upright bass. The latest addition to the band is front line soloist Justin Abicare on sax and flute. Funky and soulful tunes selected for their harmonic templates and sweetly arranged classic ballads, make this band very pleasing on the ear and tappy of the feet. The repertoire chosen from the songbooks of modern songwriters like Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, The Crusaders, Anton Jobim, Michelle Le Grand, Gershwin etc provide something for everyone, performed with a classy, funky and tuneful edge. |

Shirazz
|
Trad
|
Shirazz is a six-piece Melbourne trad jazz and dixieland band, specialising in classic hot jazz of the 20s and 30s, and has been fast gaining a reputation as one of Melbourne's premier jazz bands.
Shirazz plays classic trad jazz as it was meant to be played. With hot solos, driving rhythms and tight arrangements, a set from Shirazz is a step back in time, to a jumping New Orleans dance hall where fast, hot tunes intersect with swinging standards and laid-back Louisiana street beats. With the odd original tune and some re-imagined pop classics, Shirazz should be enjoyed irresponsibly, and in excess. |
