Stealing ideas from fusion, funk, rock and jazz alike, the albums mixed hooks and overdrive with extensive solo sections, unconventional modulations and frequent time changes to create a sonic landscape that inspired a generation of guitarists. David Carr was one such guitarist. Having worked with iconic Australian acts such as Russell Morris, Guy Sebastian, Deborah Conway and Taxiride, David was inspired to re-create Beck’s songs and sounds in a new band. Gathering bassist Robyn Payne (Tommy Emmanuel, Eurogliders, Tina Arena, Hey Hey It’s Saturday house band), drummer Rob Maizels (Crucial, Zoot Axe, Hail Hemi, Paul Jamieson Trio) and keyboardist Jared Haschek (Christine Anu, Eso, Compliments of Gus), the band have breathed new life into these classic tunes whilst staying true to the original recordings, hoping to introduce this incredible music to a brand new audience, while delighting Jeff Beck fans alike. Whilst performing in New Orleans, he discovered what some call the ‘New Orleans Connection’. On returning to Australia, Paul’s first mission was to establish the New Orleans Connection Jazz Band and ‘hand-pick’ the musician who could provide this vibrant jazz style and the new sound he was seeking. Individually, the musicians are certainly no strangers to the jazz world but collectively they provide a ‘great base for some mighty fine mainstream and traditional jazz’. The high levels of enthusiasm along with the variety and quality of the music performed has resulted in a rapid acceptance and ever increasing following of this new band. Apart from our regular ‘gigs’ is the Melbourne Jazz scene, we have featured at Jazz Festivals and Club including Victorian Jazz Club, Phillip Island, Jazz Festival, Barham Jazz Festival, Moe Jazz Club, Geelong Jazz Club, Werribee Swing Club and more.
